As I have been researching the subject of our first discussion, I had a hymn in my head. I turned to it in the hymnal, and read the lyrics. It is “True to the Faith” page 254
It reads,

Shall the youth of Zion falter in defending truth and right? While the enemy assaileth, shall we shrink or shun the fight? No!

While we know the powers of darkness, seek to thwart the work of God. Shall the children of the promise cease to grasp the iron rod? No!

We will work out our salvation; we will cleave unto the truth; we will watch and pray and labor with the fervent zeal of youth. Yes!

We will strive to be found worthy of the kingdom of our Lord, with the faithful ones redeemed who have loved and kept his word. Yes!

Chorus: True to the faith that our parents have cherished, true to the truth for which martyrs have perished, to god’s command, Soul, heart, and hand, Faithful and true we will ever stand.

I have to wonder if our church leaders consider the lyrics of this hymn as they sing it. Our first topic of discussion is J.W. Marriot and his hardcore pornography in his hotels. I can hardly believe that Mr. Marriot is allowed to hold his membership in the church. How often are we preached to in general conference about the dangers of pornography? Every conference we hear it, we are taught it. Pornography is extremely addictive, destroys marriages and is dirty and deplorable. Why then is it alright for such a prominent figure to sell and profit from this dirty business? Does Mr. Marriot pay tithing on this profit?

I have pondered and worked myself up about this issue for quite some time. I thought maybe I should open up a dirty sex shop in protest. Ha ha what a joke. We would see how long it would take for me to be ex-communicated. Maybe I will just rent out dirty movies from my home. I don’t have to watch them, but I could sure make a profit right? I don’t think President Monson would mind, since I am just making a livin’.

What has happened to our leaders that they allow this behavior? To my knowledge, Mr. Marriot has quite a high position in our church. How is that permitted? If you don’t find yourself a little bit heart- broken, or angry about this fact, then you are a hypocrite. Of what good is this noble hymn that we all know by heart, if even our leaders make a mockery of it.

Let me tell you that this disgusts me. I am downright angry about this. Many people have defended Mr. Marriot and I have to wonder why. If any of you believe in your religion, to the highest degree, then why would you defend this? Some people say that it is not our concern. Yet it is. It blemishes our religion, and makes us all a laughing stock.
My husband and I have been faithful members of the Church of Jesus Christ all our lives. We were married in the temple, we paid tithing, and attended all our church meetings. We loved our religion, and thought that it was perfect.

We still hold true to the Book of Mormon, and all the doctrines, but we are finding it hard to follow blindly, our present day church leadership. We feel that if we continue to follow, that we will become hypocrites to the highest degree. As we have studied our religion, we have found some things going on presently, that make us feel extremely angry, and confused. This blog is dedicated to the discussion of these topics.

Please feel free to comment on anything you feel. However, please be courteous, and respectful, and do not use foul language. The purpose of this blog is to inform and discuss, not to cause argument.
